Just a minor loss.

So this is week 99 of my weight loss journey. Nearly two years since I decided that I needed to do something to change my life.

A long time for anything and when I started, I never thought that I would care so much about the journey and what it’s meant to me.

I’ve made a huge amount of changes over the last few years and that’s been huge for me. I’m not a fan of change and never really have been. It takes me a very long time to get to where I need to be and it’s not just in my personal life.

I know that more change is coming and 2020 is likely to be huge. What with the mum not really being a well person and seemingly getting worse then it’s going to take a lot of change there and that’s something I’m not looking forward to but has to be done.

When I look back over the last two years, not only have I lost 10 stone in weight, I’ve changed jobs and gained a certain amount of confidence back. I’ve had to step up in situations where I’ve been needed and I hope I’ve been a good friend to all the people who’s lives I’ve touched in that time.

There have been a lot of new people, at work and socially. I inspired a couple of people to come back to group this last few weeks and that’s been something that has given me a bit more incentive this coming week.

This week hasn’t been great on plan. Last Friday I had to take an emergency day off work. Mum had had a fall the day before but didn’t tell me about it. I then had a message asking if I could take her to A&E to get her foot checked out.

The day just went in an absolute flash and I think I realised as I was heading home that I’d not had anything to eat.

I pass quite possibly the nicest Chinese takeaway in Cardiff on the way home and I just thought, sod it! I stopped and had my favourite meal for one from there. I’d not had one for months. In fact, it’s probably over a year since I last stopped there for food.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Chicken in batter, sweet and sour sauce, half a carton of fried rice and half a carton of beef chow mein. I’m sure that there’s a fakeaway version of the dish but I just wasn’t in the right mood to buy the bits and cook it.

Saturday was a good night out. Four of my friends celebrated Birthdays. I’d been to check up on the mum and then joined my friends in town.

I drove which ensured that I didn’t drink alcohol. I’m not doing dry January or anything as daft as that, besides I won’t have alcohol if I have the car with me. I do drink loads of Diet Coke however and I’m not sure if that’s a good thing either. That was a good night but that didn’t end until 5am again!

I spent Sunday up at Lauren’s, nursing her through her hangover! We did an Asda run and I cooked a Chilli. I was going to do one at home but as I was in Cwmbran, I made it there.

Lauren is a vegetarian but wanted a bit of chilli too. So I made one using beef mince and one using Quorn.

I did try the Quorn version but I felt it needed a lot more flavouring than the beef chilli. The Quorn was a little cheaper than the beef although it may have been on sale. I need to make another one this weekend for my week ahead so I’m considering using Quorn. That may be quite interesting and if I do, I’ll let you know how I get on.

Exercise has been non-existent again this week. I’ve done no walking since before Christmas. I think my last good walk was up Pen-Y-Fan (I may have done one other). That’s something that I need to get back to. I hope I can get another trek up the mountain before the end of the month.

My landlord is putting a new bathroom in to the house. It started yesterday and is expected to take until Tuesday next week. I’ve had to take time off to have this done and that’s not great because I’m very limited as to the annual leave that I have. Still, a new bathroom is nice!

As a result, I’m stuck in the house. I’m not getting out and about. I don’t get to wander around so to lose half a pound this week, I’m quite pleased! I’m going to have to work a bit harder to lose the two or three that I’d like to for next week so we’ll see how we get on.

I will of course keep you updated to see what happens in week 100!
