Strange things.

Another missed week and another apology from me for not keeping you updated. However, I do have a good excuse!

This past week and a bit has been a bit of a nightmare. I’m back in Wenvoe as the mum had another fall. This time she fell at 10pm on the Tuesday night but didn’t call for help until 6am on the Wednesday morning. She was on the bedroom floor for all that time, eight hours.

I was called by her Emergency Service at about 6am. I jumped in the car and was with her by about 7:30! When I arrived, she was on the floor and in a bit of pain which I suppose isn’t surprising.

We called for a Paramedic and within about half an hour, the St John’s Ambulance arrived. The chap was excellent and reassured the mum. Did a little bit of assessment and then we both managed to get her on to an inflatable seat that raised her into a position where we could move her on to the bed.

He then decided that given the pain she was in and the fact that she seemed to have one leg longer than the other she should go to A&E to be checked out.

An Ambulance was called and they managed to wrap her up and pop her on a stretcher and into the van. That was at about 10:30am on Wednesday 19th and I’ve not seen her since.

Luckily, there was nothing broken or fractured. She had a CT scan too and no concussion or anything else.

Shutting down.

So what with everything that’s happening in the world at the moment, I’ve not been allowed to visit her. It’s not like the last time she went in to hospital. I was able to visit her for an hour a day but this time it’s not great.

Mum’s dementia diagnosis was only a few weeks ago but it seems that things are rapidly accelerating. I’m sure that it has a lot to do with what’s going on and where she is but she’s so very confused.

She’s been moved from the Heath Hospital and is now in Llandough. She’s being given physiotherapy and is being assessed for her mental health. The Memory Team are based in Llandough so hopefully she’s in the best place for her. I don’t feel that its safe for her to come back home.

She has been having visits from carers, four times a day but she has no visits from 8pm to 8am and it’s during this time that she has her falls. I’m of the opinion that she needs 24 hour care and for me, the next step is to get her into residential care where she can be looked after and I can visit her when ever I want to.

The Tale from the Scale.

So given all that’s been going on over the last few weeks, I’ve not been good at all. Just trying to keep myself on the straight and narrow and lets face it, my mind has been elsewhere.

Having said that, I was half a pound down last week and have maintained it this week. I did go for a walk with Alex (see above) and that was nearly five miles. I do plan on another one soon and as it’s Bank Holiday on Monday then perhaps that’ll be the day for a good jolly wander. I may jump in the car and go a little further afield.

Need to do something to take me out of things for a while. I do have a party to go to on Saturday and planning to see friends for a beer on Sunday so hopefully I can keep myself busy and no sitting around moping.

Love ya,
Pip.
