Gigs and Giggles

So again I need to apologise for the lack of updates recently. It’s been a good few weeks and I’ve had a load of fun. I enjoyed a number of gigs and days out. Oh and we finally got rid of the Tories!

Wednesday and it was time for a haircut so off I popped to Pontyclun and the intriguingly named 1958 Barbers. It’s only a short jaunt there but the genuine rockstar Sam B from Haxan has a daytime job there cutting us chaps locks. She always does a grand job and I can thoroughly recommend.

Thursday and it was time to go and cast my vote in the General Election. A quick and easy job, down to the OG Slimming World venue from 2018. Put my cross in the box (I think the Welsh football squad could learn a lot!) and then pootled back up to the house to finish the day and then to head into town for the first gig of the weekend.

Rites to Ruin and Fury.

Of course it had to be Fuel Rock Club for the first of two gigs this weekend.

Rites to Ruin are a fairly new band on the scene although it is helmed by an old (less of the old please Mr G) stalwart, Krissie “The Other Voice” Kirby.

It was a good gig but I was disappointed at the turn out. It looked to me like there were less people there than would typically have voted for the local Monster Raving Loony candidate. Shame really as they missed out on a great night.

I know that most wouldn’t care and the bands would have played anyway, even if it was just me that had turned up on the night but Fury are a fantastic hard working band and deserved to have more come and watch them. (Their bassist plays for Mercyful Fate for dog’s sake!)

Friday 5th

The amazing Manic Street Preachers in Cardiff Castle today. They were touring with 90’s icons Suede and that was quite a display. Brett Anderson hasn’t changed in 30 years!

The Manics however were on absolute fire. I hope that the dismissal of Tory rule had something to do with the energy that they put into the set of some of their greatest hits. From “The Holy Bible” to “Send Away the Tigers” and beyond, their set just flew past. 17 songs of pure nostalgia.

The Weekend After.

So, nursing an impressive hangover on Saturday, I didn’t really move from the sofa! It was the British Grand Prix weekend so it was good to be able to sit and watch Qualifying. To see George Russell and Lewis Hamilton take a front row lock-out for Mercedes was a fantastic way to welcome them back to the sharp end of the grid.

My Sunday involved a lovely afternoon down at Rhosilli down at the Gower. The sun came out for a fantastic afternoon with some photography, walking and ice-cream! Topped the day off with a carvery and the weekend could not have been better.

Tuesday

This is where I managed to mess up slightly! As I had Monday off, I thought it would be a good idea to get a grocery delivery.

I took a bit of time to get a decent delivery booked for the same day between 7 and 9pm. However, what I didn’t take into account was that it wasn’t Monday. It was Tuesday and of course, I should be at Slimming World for 7pm! What a dipstick!

I realised my mistake and got on to Iceland’s Customer Service Team. I asked if they could deliver sooner. The team called the local store and they had an earlier slot. Phew! The store can deliver between 5pm and 7pm. Brilliant! 8pm and the van turns up outside!

Dammit! I missed group again!

Last weekend.

The rest of the week wasn’t too bad however. There was another carvery on Friday night and I then a Saturday on the pop in Caerleon, just outside Newport.

A great day out in a number of pub beer gardens with a number of pints of beer. There was quite a bit of walking too.

As it happens, I didn’t have too bad a hangover on Sunday but I admit to not getting out of bed until well gone midday! A lovely roast chicken dinner and an early night made it two great weekends on the trot.

The Tale of the Scale.

So, I stepped through the doors at Slimming World for the first time in a few weeks.

I’ve been feeling really flabby and quite low over the last few days and wasn’t really expecting anything good given the grub and the booze. They never really help!

I stood on the scales expecting that I’d put on weight. I expected a considerable gain. My t-shirts have been feeling a bit tighter than they have been recently.

Amazingly, the scales of doom registered a three pound loss.

Well, that was a bit of a shock. I have no idea what the difference has been but I’ll take it!

Next time.

I’m going to try and lose another three lbs this week. If I can get there then that will be my three stone award.

I will get a couple of walks under my belt and while I have Saturday night out, I’ll do my best to stay on track as best I can.

Wish me luck. 🙂
