Steelhouse 2024

These posts seem to be getting further and further apart at the moment so I do need to issue yet another apology for not updating you with my weightloss journey (or not as it may appear).

So what’s happened over the last couple of weeks?

My visit to Slimming World last week was not the best. After an evening out in Flight Club on the previous Saturday, I had managed to put on three pounds. Not the best.

I had vowed to try and lose those three pounds in the next week, however it was time for Steelhouse.

Festival Season begins.

The first festival of three took place this weekend. Steelhouse again is one of the finest small festivals in the UK at the moment.

It takes place on top of a “mountain” near to Ebbw Vale and you can never guarantee the weather. Last year was a washout, this year it was blazing sunshine and for me one of the best weekend of the year so far!

This year was my ninth year at the festival. It’s starting to be a habit and I’ve already bought my ticket for next year. There is just something about camping with your mates, listening to amazing musicians and just having a damn good laugh!

This year started with a tribute to Bernie Marsden, formally of Whitesnake. Bernie loved it at Steelhouse, so much so that he wrote a track on his last album about the place.

They had organised an all star tribute to the man. Nev Macdonald from Skin was the main man and he didn’t half belt some of those tunes. They brought on some special guests thought the set. The amazing Chris Buck played on a couple of tunes and it was just captivating.

Well done Steelhouse. You did him proud and he made sure the clouds disappeared so he could watch. RIP Bernie Marsden.

Phil’s Steelhouse Gallery.

It was an absolute blast. Three days of fantastic music, incredible beers and some very delicious food.

There was quite a bit of walking between the car, campsite and the arena on friday, setting up the new tent and then getting settled in.

I didn’t drink a massive amount over the weekend, I may have had around ten pints over the three days that we were there so that’s I suppose better than having all ten in an evening as I have been on a Saturday.

Food on the otherhand wasn’t the best with a shed load of temptation and deliciousness on offer. Most of it smothered in cheese that wouldn’t have helped!

Of course, there was snack food back at the tent and the very welcome bacon butty in the morning courtesy of my fellow campers!

I genuinely can’t believe that it’s nearly a week since I was queuing on the notorious mountain road, waiting for the gates to open.

The tale of the scale.

I wasn’t feeling very well on Tuesday. I must have eaten something that didn’t agree with me and when I left Thornhill to get over to Danescourt, I had a nasty pain in my tum.

I got to Slimming World and weighed but couldn’t stay for the group. I didn’t rush home but by the time I did manage to get back, it was straight up to drive the porcelain bus.

I was in bed and asleep by half eight and thankfully slept right through the night.

All of the above contributed to another 2.5lb gain this week. Not unexpected but slightly worrying that it’s a net 5lb gain over the last few weeks.

Next time on Fatboy Slimmer.

I am going to be as good as I can be this week. I’m off down to Exeter on Saturday and will be stopping over at Fiona’s on Saturday night. I know that my food will be much better this weekend and that I won’t be scoffing my face with burgers and chips.

I may have a couple of beers but only from the point of view that Fi’s boyfriend is Australian and therefore not very cultured in the multitude of fine beers produced by this country! (He’s been here long enough!)

I’ve a couple of tins left over from Steelhouse (I only took four with me). I’ll take those along with me for him to try. I understand that he has a couple of Aussie brews for me to try too. Sounds like a fair dinkum swap to me!

At the end of the week, it’s off to festival number two! Bloodstock. Four days of absolute mayhem! Well, it won’t be that bad. I hope!
