It’s been quite a busy week this week. There have been a few events that I’ve absolutely loved.
Florence Black on Friday night, Brettstock on Saturday and then a visit to the cinema last night. So, where to begin.
As usual, my week seems to start on Wednesday’s and has done so for quite a long time. Last Wednesday was time for a walk. I did the loop from here to Lisvane and back up. It’s not too far, just under three miles including a wander through Sainsburys.
Thursday I did the Thornhil Mile and a Half just up to the M4 and then back down so a quiet easy walk.
Flo Black
Friday was time for some loud music so Mandy and I headed to Merthyr to see the quite incredible Florence Black playing their home town.
I’d not been to the venue before this evening. Clwb Crown which by all accounts was the former Merthyr RFC Clubhouse. It was a really good venue. There was a large undercover marquee area where there was a bar and the merch stand. A large bar area to the rear of the venue and there was a food stand there too.
The concert itself was amazing, although it seemed beset with little technical issues. There was one rather large issue when about three quarters of the way through the set, the electrics failed on stage. The boys went of stage for about 15 minutes but the problems were fixed and they came back on to finish the gig.
The problem didn’t stop there though. Half way through the song Sun and Moon, the stage lights failed and it all went dark! The amps were still powered so they continued on and ended the set well.

Brettstock
Saturday was then Brettstock 5. Once a year, our mate Brett opens his back garden for a bit of a knees up. It’s always a good laugh with good friends and lots of booze and grub.
I decided to drive so I didn’t drink although I did have a couple of Guinness Zero’s which while not as heavy as a nortmal Guinness do still have 3.5 syns each.
Of course, there was a bit of food which was the usual sausages, koftas, pork steaks and pringles etc. I think that this possible did for me this week.
Brettstock however is an amazing day. So much fun and Brett is always good value.

The Movies
Last night then it was off to the Cinema. A fantastic evening watching Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (known by me as just Star Wars)! I’d not seen the film on the big screen since it was updated by George Lucas in 1997, 20 years after its original cinema release.
The movie is now 47 years old, just seven years younger than me but I was transported back to little (yes I was little) seven year old me, sitting in The Plaza Cinema in Gabalfa with my Bamp. He told me to keep an eye on the top right hand side of the screen as the Rebel Blockade Runner zooms into view followed by the enormous Imperial Star Destroyer. I still don’t know how he knew this but that was my Bamp!
I returned home to the news that the incredible James Earl Jones passed away aged 93. His voice gave Darth Vader that level of menace that made him one of, if not the greatest screen villain of all time.
A sad end to an amazing day.
The Tale of The Scale

So after the weekend, I really wasn’t expecting very much to happen at SW. Rob’s groups have been quite quiet so I was hopeful that if I’d done well then I may have been declared Slimmer of the Week.
There were some new members there tonight and a group of people that started last week. Wow, there were some amazing losses for their first weeks on plan. Three family members lost 26lbs in one week, that’s utterly staggering!
For my own part, I managed to lose another pound this week, despite Brettstock and a few sweeties at the movies yesterday.
I’m quite please with that to be fair and it did snag me Slimmer of the Week for the second week running.
Next time
So this next week will be lots of fun. Probably lots of drinkies, food and hopefully there will be quite a bit of walking. I’m due for a haircut tomorrow afternoon, after which, I will look to go for a wander around the reservoirs.
Friday is a half day in work and I then fly to Scotland for a weekend with my good friend Alex. We plan to head off in her campervan to see some of the incredible Highland scenery. I’m hoping to head west to Glencoe and some decent walking. It should be a good weekend but I do envision putting on a pound or two! I’ll be happy with a maintain if I can have a good couple of days for the rest of the week.
Anyhoo, thanks again for reading.
