April’s Fool

It’s not going to be a good start to the month in Slimming World terms. Tuesday’s group was disappointing for a number of reasons.

First off, after the last four days, I’m definitely expecting a gain and a significant one at that! Secondly, it’s likely to be Consultant Rob’s last Tuesday evening group. SW are looking for a replacement consultant and so far there has been no luck. It’s highly possible that tonight will be the last group there and I will need to find a new group somewhere else.

I know there are groups closer to Thornhill so I do hope that I’ll be able to find one around the same time of day but my updates may be later on in the week.

I did get out to the reservoir for a walk on Wednesday afternoon so I did at least try to start the week on a good footing. Unfortunately the foot was a major problem for the rest of the week.

Anyway, why the gain you ask?

Well, the last four days have been spent in splendid Scotland, so as you’d expect Slimming World went way out of the window.

Friday

I decided to get an early flight from Bristol to Edinburgh so was up and out by 3.30am on Friday morning. The trip over to Bristol was quite uneventful although there were a lot of people in the Airport taking flights.

I bumped into my friend Nick and his partner who were off to Faro to join Photo Paul and Arwen celebrating Paul’s birthday. That really helped the time waiting for the flight to go very quickly! I was even luckier as the flight went from Gate 4, not Gate 2,090,102 as usual!

The flight was nice and again I’m able to take my seat without requesting a belt expander. The early flight did mean a very long day that was done by 8am!

I didn’t last too long before retiring for a nap in the afternoon. Refreshed it was time to head out for an hour or so. Off into Falkirk Town for a few beers. We caught up with Alex’s friend and lots of doggies at The Wheatsheaf.

Saturday

We planned on a trip out in the van and we headed out towards Anstruther on the Fife coast. We went there for a very quick visit in February.

Alex had booked a spot at the Silverdyke Caravan Park in Cellardyke. We parked up and decided that we would walk to Pittenweem. Unfortunately my damn foot and it turns out my back had other ideas.

The weather wasn’t great either. The winds were ferocious and the skies opened. We made it about a mile or so from the campsite. We stopped a couple of times and one particular stop was at “The Wee Chippy” for some fish and chips.

I was in luck as I got a piece of Cod. Being Scotland, Haddock is the main go to. Alex had haddock and her dish had two pieces of fish. Apparently this is a thing.

We wandered back to the van and cwtched up watching Alma’s Not Normal. One of the funniest show’s I’ve seen in an age.

The wind was still raging out side and the van was rocking in the gale. I didn’t think I was ever going to get to sleep but I was absolutely toasty overnight.

Sunday

We woke up to a beautifully sunny day. The wind dropped slightly although still a little gusty on occasion. Alex decided that it was sunny enough to go for a dip in the seawater pool.

That was not for me but there were clearly a bunch of ladies at the pool who had been in and were just chatting and drinking tea. They had been for a dip earlier and did warn Alex that it was a bit chilly! That didn’t stop her! 7 degrees at its warmest.

We headed off to Pittenweem and a mug of hot chocolate was obtained to warm up.

Then to Cupar to visit Alex’s mum for the afternoon and a splendid meal for Mothers Day. Absolutely delish Lamb dinner and one of the best Sticky Toffee Puds that I’ve ever had!

We had two pud’s on Sunday as there was some incredible chocolate cake bought from Pittenweem. We watched Season Two of Alma’s not normal and couldn’t wait for this fantastic pud!

Monday

The day to return home and back to reality. Before that however it was time for one last splurge. We went to a Chinese Buffet in Falkirk. Monday lunchtime and I thought that we would be the only people in there. Wow was I wrong. It was extremely busy. There were loads of people there, not just OAP’s taking advantage of a cheap meal.

As usual, these buffet’s are all you can eat! We both managed three plates of food and a plate of their desserts and ice-cream.

I think I had a cookie and a cup of tea for the rest of the day.

The flight home was good but when I left the Airport Parking, the main road towards Bristol was closed off and I was diverted around some distance to get back home. It was nearly 1am when I arrived back in Cardiff.

The tale of the scale.

So, let’s face the scales. After a fantastic weekend where food was quite possibly some of the best that I’ve ever eaten.

I was absolutely expecting to gain this week. My guess was 3-4lbs considering the beers and food that had been consumed.

I was therefore quite pleased when the gain was simply just 1lb.

It could easily have been three to four pounds so just one, well I was best pleased with that.

Next time.

There’s not much holding me back from a good loss this week. I hope that I’ll be able to get the two pounds off this week.

My foot is still causing me a problem. I’ve not been able to get to the doctors as when I call then all of the routine appointments have gone and there’s only emergency ones left. I don’t really consider this an emergency but I do need to get someone to have a look. I’m not wanting to sit for hours in A&E as while it is painful, I am still able to walk on it.

I’m not sure if it is PF now as I may have perhaps a slight stress fracture in the foot. I have been having a bit of pain over the top of my foot too.

I do need to move more this week too. I feel quite lazy mostly because I don’t want to put undue stress on my foot but I realise that the only way to lose a pound or two is to go and walk.

Come on Giles. Get your arse in gear!
