Battle Boom Blackpool.

Another week down and it’s been quite an exceptional one. I’ve done a few miles in the car, drunk a few drinks and walked a few steps!

We start as always with Wednesday. That involved my trying to get an appointment at my doctors to see about my foot. I was on hold only to be told that they were only taking emergencies as there was staff training in the afternoon. I needed to call again, the next day.

Ah well. The afternoon saw me taking the car out to Pontyclun and a hair cut with Sam from Haxan. As a result, I wasn’t able to get to the pool for my swim that afternoon. I did however get myself there later in the evening along with Stef who again was late!

Thursday was the usual, another day in work. Things are moving forward with my training and as per usual, I’ve tried to think of ways to make the job slightly easier for us. I’ve created a webpage that with just a few clicks will look to fill in a template letter.

Regrettably it works fine on the older system but the new system seems to want to do things it’s own way and that’s not helpful. Maybe the page can be adapted but as now, I can’t test it as it uses its own system and it’s live. Dammit!

Friday was another afternoon off. This time to go to town and have a round of crazy golf. Golf Fang is so much fun and another round was to be had with my old team from Swansea.

I wasn’t going to have too many as I needed to be up early the next day. However a few beers and shots in saw us at The Boom Battle Bar doing more shots and karaoke!

I managed to make it home by about 9:30 and zonked out ready for a very long day.

The Pool!

The weekend saw a run up to Blackpool for the third time in three years. The May bank holiday is when they hold the “No Sleep til Blackpool” Motorhead Weekend. This year they were celebrating 50 years of Motorhead.

A four hour plus drive saw the car tell me that there was a tyre pressure problem. Just outside of Brimingham and the dashboard lit up. Oh great!

We pulled over into the nearest services and drove around to the garage to check the tyres. They all looked okay but there was a problem. I couldn’t get the caps off the tyre valves. I’d replaced the plastic caps with metal ones cos they looked cool. However, they welded themselves to the tyre valves so there was a certain amount of panic on the drive there.

The hotel in Blackpool was awful. To be fair it was £85 for three people for the night. We were slightly early when we arrived (only 20 minutes). We stood around and someone eventually arrived and told us to feck off until after check-in time.

The carpets were stained, the beds were broken, there was no bog roll and no towels, despite having requested them. The toilet bowl was filthy. The floorboards were broken or missing. The bulb was exposed. There was no telly, despite having a TV bracket. The electric sockets were loose and there were flecks of blood and bogies on the wall.

However all we needed to do was sleep in it and we would inevitably be slightly squiffy so what’s the problem?!

We had a good afternoon wandering through Blackpool and finding a pub. Then off to The Waterloo to join other like minded Motorhead fans and enjoy a great evening of old mates and music.

Sunday was a quite run up to Cleveleys for some breakfast (The hotel included breckie but the state of the place put us right off!).

Then it was back in the car and the home to the Diff. Fair do’s it was a long old drive but worth it.

Monday was the Bank Holiday so a lovely free day off work. The weather had dropped a bit so it wasn’t as warm as it had been earlier in the weekend, however that didn’t halt the dream of after 30 years hosting my first ever BBQ at Chez Giles!

There was so much food! Plenty of sausages, burgers, pork belly, Doritos, salad’s and drinkies. Lovely company with the gang all around it was so very nice. I shall look to host again possibly on the next bank holiday at the end of the month.

The Tale of the Scale.

So given the weekend and the quantity of beer and food, I was expecting a huge gaim.

Standing on the scales of doom, I was quite surprised to see a 1.5lb loss.

I really don’t understand what is going on here! I’m happy that it was a loss but maybe next week will be a gain, even though the food wouldn’t be that bad.

I think that the next few weeks are going to be quite tricky and I’m not expecting anything better next week.

Next Time

Alex is here at the weekend. I’m going to go swimming late on Wednesday evening so I’ll be straight to bed once I’m done in the pool!

Friday and Alex will be in Swansea. I’ll be joining her on Saturday and then we’ll have a trip out on Sunday, heading out to Aberystwyth and then on Monday will drive her back over the the Airport for her trip home.

It’s suggested that food will not be superb on the weekend but it will certainly be good fun.
