It wasn’t an all bad week to be fair but I’ve had better! I was completing another lap around the sun so absolutely that had to be celebrated.
That really started the moment that I stepped off the scales at last week’s Slimming world and it hasn’t really ended.
Friday got the weekend off to a good start. It was a much anticipated Phil Campbell and the B@stard Sons gig in Ponty Muni. They were supported by Haẍan and King Kraken who both managed to warm up the crowd very nicely for the main event.

It was a good night but as I was driving, I managed to save a few calories for day two which I knew was not going to be a good one diet-wise.
Saturday started fairly early. I’d booked a load of us into a new sports bar in Cardiff for a round of darts. To say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. There were so many things wrong with it that I felt a bit ashamed that I’d subjected my friends to quite a crappy place. Serves me right though. Next year I’ll ensure that things are booked in a lot sooner.
We started at Tiny Rebel for a couple of ales, then moved across to Ludo.
From there it was over to The Head of Steam for more beer and rum. A few drinks later then we headed over to The Gatekeeper for you guessed it, a few more beers and some food. I had Fish ‘n chips, then a brownie for dessert. That and a couple more beers, shots of tequila and rum ‘n cokes.
From there it was in to Fuel for more beers, more rum and more tequila and lots of dancing to some grand tunes provided by Mr Duffy. I got home at around 4am!

The hangover was worth it though. Sunday was a bit of a waste but I did ruin it with some delicious bits and pieces. I cooked a chicken and had a nice dinner but I hardly moved all afternoon.
Monday was in to the office. While I wasn’t too bad, there were some little temptations and certainly at home some bits that needed to be disposed of.
Tuesday was the big day and as is the tradition, doughnuts needed to be bought and consumed. I also had a meal deal and some Jaffa Cakes.
In the evening, I was treated to a meal by Mandy who took us to the local Toby Carvery.
We were booked in for 7pm. We had to wait for our table and sat down around ten past. The queue for the Carvery was really long and I’d not seen it so busy for a very long time.
We gave it about 10 more minutes and then decided to go and queue up. The queue didn’t move for another 10 minutes, at which point, the manager came over and said that they had run out of meat and that there was only veg left.
We realised that they had an offer on to get a Carvery for £6 so the place had been besieged by Students all looking for a cheap feed. They’d not factored this in and had literally been eaten out of house and home.
We decided to leave and see if we could find somewhere else to eat.
We were told that The Hollybush Inn had a carvery so went there. It certainly looked less busy the the Toby was.
Again, we’d arrived at bit too late and their carvery had been demolished. They only had veggies left and they looked drier than the Sahara.
We decided to order from the set menu. That was god awful. Again, they had run out of fish and they were out of gammon for Mandy.
I started with dough balls. No dip with them. And Mandy had garlic mushrooms that were straight out of the freezer.
We both ended up with Scampi and chips I had a Yorkshire Pud, peas, carrots and gravy. Mandy had sprouts but they were like bullets!
Dessert wasn’t much better. A slice of apple pie that was very soggy. Mandy had a sticky toffee pud that looked far less than sticky!
All in all it was quite a disappointment but it was nice to spend time with someone on the day rather than being in the house with my own thoughts.
The Tale of the Scale.

So it’s not that surprising that this week ended in a gain. 3lbs on this week. I knew I was going to gain but I’d hoped it was going to be fairly decent a pound at most.
It’s something that I can work on during the week. I’ll aim to get myself moving again with a couple of short walks, combined with a swim and who knows, I may even pluck up the courage to go to the gym.
Next week
There’s not much that’s going to cause me too many problems next week. I’ve got nothing planned this weekend that might get in the way of a good week.
I’m off to see Paradise Lost in Bristol next Wednesday but I will be driving to that one so there may be a Guinness Zero involved but not much else. As it’s a Wednesday, it will be my half day so I’ll ensure I have some grub before I go.
I’ll look to make a big pot of chilli for the week too.
