A New Year

2020 is over but in all honesty 2021 didn’t start very well.

I’ve been keeping a diary for the week. Food wise (except one blip) has been good. New years day was a full roast meal. Roast Chicken, roast carrots, roast parsnips a bit of milk in the carrot and parsnip mash. Gravy not great and ice cream for afters.

Looking back at the day it was a very quiet end to 2020 and a hangover free start to 2021. I hope that the rest of the year perks up although at the moment it looks like we’re in for more of the same.

Saturday got off to a good start with a good breakfast. Went to B&M to get some bits and pieces. Skinny Crunch bars and the Mayflower Curry Sauce. Got home and opened Facebook to find that an old friend had passed away less than 24 hours after a positive covid test.

That really threw me. Mark was an amazing fella. He was always the life and soul of any gathering that you both went to. He will be massively missed.

I did lose it food wise, went to Sainsburys and bought a load of crap and scoffed the lot. Drank a few Rum ‘n Cokes too. Not a great day.

Rest in Peace old friend.

Sunday was extremely lazy. Slightly hungover and in bed until 11am. Well, it is Sunday after all.

I dropped some bits and pieces off to the Home for the mum, then decided to go for a walk.

First tracked walk back

The rest of the week has been in work and my days have merged into one. My breakfasts and lunches have been more or less the same. I have been trying to be a bit healthy. At lunch, I’ve been having the old microwaveable rice bags but I’ve been trying veggie sausages.

The last time I tried a veggie sausage (ooer), the thing tasted like biting into a hedgerow. However I admit that these are really nice and are free on the Slimming World plan. Add some pickled beetroot for a quick and tasty lunch. (I only get half an hour for lunch at the moment and these take about 10-12 minutes to cook).

On a Wednesday I usually like to have steak for my tea. I went for a walk again after another trip to the Care Home but I honestly thought it was Tuesday. I have so lost the days and I missed my steak!

I’m still feeling a bit stressed out as the finances for mum’s care are still a bit of a mystery at the moment. I have managed to get a refund for the overpayment of council tax so that’s a good start.

The financing for the care is still a bit of a mystery. The house has yet to sell and a week into the new year, there doesn’t appear to be any interest in viewing. I know that they’re not able to view at the moment but I had hoped that they may have arranged some virtual viewings but nothing as yet.

I don’t know what’s wrong with the house. I can’t see that there’s much if anything wrong with it. I’m sure that I’ll get to a point where it will all sort itself out. I hope it’s sooner rather than later.

Weight

Just after Christmas, I’d weighed and it wasn’t good news. I’d been back up to 22st 7lbs again. That’s a bit of a nightmare and not good news. I know that lots of people have gained a pound or two but my gain has been out of control.

I’m going to get back into control and this week has been a good start. I’ve lost 6.2lbs so close on half a stone this week. I’m tracking what I’m eating in a diary and using an app called Nutracheck (Link below). It seems to be a good app to use to check calories. It has a barcode scanner and a large database of foods. It also links to your fitness tracker so it adds the exercise to your daily totals.  It’s suggested that I should be having around 2455 calories a day. So far my calorie intake according to the app is around 300 calories less than my target.

So fingers crossed, I’ll keep this going and I’ve set a target to lose 3.5 stone by the time our festivals start in July.

  1. I enjoy your blog. Sad to read the news about your friend. Kinda hanging on to the hope that the vaccines do a proper job and allow us to get back to a semblance of our previous lives. Once you can get out and about more, you will eat better and all will come good again, fer sure.
