I’m back (sort of)!

It’s been a long while since my last post and as usual, the first thing to do is to apologise for that. I’m sorry that I’ve not given an update since May. Wow, has it been that long?

So what has happened?

The House

Well, the house has been sold and the funds have been transferred over to mum’s account. I’ve paid £20k in respect to the care that mum has already received and the current cost of £4500 per month will now be paid from the proceeds of the sale. By my reckoning then she has around 20 months before the money runs out.

I hear that there may be ways to push for the costs to be paid for by the NHS. I feel that her condition should be enough to claim so I have asked for an assessment to see what assistance she could be entitled to. They are already paying an amount in respect to Funded Nursing Care but in terms of her £1180 per week care, this is £160 per week towards the care.

The Mum

So, the Mum is safe and sound at the Home. Even though the country has opened up now, back to Alert Level Zero (or Threat Level Midnight for Office US fans), the home visits are still affected by Covid. I did see her at the weekend and actually had a call, then a visit on the same day. Both Kath and I were able to go and see her and we had a good chat on Saturday afternoon. I’m off to a festival this week so it was nice to get a couple of contacts with her.

The Weight

My good friend Fiona has invited me to go to visit her new home for a weekend in Wellington. She’s been on her own  weight loss journey, a little different to mine (in that she’s stuck to it!) It’s seen her lose eight stone and undergo an operation to remove the loose skin as a result. She’s still recovering from the operation but has was previously walking a good four miles every day.

She set a challenge to lose 5lbs by the time I go and visit so I thought I’d try to watch what I was eating for the last week.

I’ve not had any alcohol this week. I have had a good meal out with my friend Alex and I didn’t help myself with some fish and chips, bread and butter and a great stonking ice cream sundae.

Still a good three lbs loss over the week is something to be happy with and an okay start back on the journey. I’m going to have some difficulty keeping it going this week what with Bloodstock Festival. I expect to be back to where I was last Monday.

Chatting to Alex on the weekend, I think that I’ve decided that I’m going to start again. My wall of weight loss has been hidden behind a load of stuff that has come from Mum’s. I need to clear it off and then begin again with a new start. I’m on the search for a good group now somewhere fairly close with a great consultant who inspires.

I will do my best to keep this up to date but I’ve had so little to update the page with over the last few months.

Wish me luck.
